Arcade

August 2016

A wooden desktop arcade console sits on a shelf. It has a joystick, spinner and buttons. A small screen atop displays Street Fighter.

I grew up taking every chance I got to play video games (particularly independent releases, but that’s neither here nor there). My dad and I have always spoken at length about my interests, and I was curious about what he’d played growing up. When I learned his favorites were Zaxxon and Tempest—and that he wished he could play again with the proprietary arcade cabinet spinner—I took it upon myself to make this dream a reality.

This desktop arcade cabinet was my first completed electronics + design project, built around ages ~10–13. It contains a Raspberry Pi computer, running RetroPie.
